About Simon Fraser University

Simon Fraser University, also known as SFU, is a Canadian public research university in Burnaby, which is the third-largest city in British Columbia, Canada, by population, situated 20 km from downtown Vancouver.

SFU was established in 1965 and, according to the 2009 edition of Macleans Magazine, it is 1st among Canada's Comprehensive Universities, as well as 57th in the world and 3rd in Canada, according to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (2009).

The university presently has an enrollment of approximately 32 000 students, and offers educational programs in various fields of study, through 8 faculties: Faculty of Applied Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Science.

Athletics

SFU's athletic teams are known as the Simon Fraser Clan, which compete in NCAA Division II, the university also having affiliations with AUCC, CARL?, IAU, ACU, CIS, CUSID, CWUAA, CBIE and CUP, in various sports, for both men and women. Their distinctive colors are blue and red and their mascot is McFogg the Dog.
