Simon Fraser University, also known as SFU, is a Canadian public research university in Burnaby, which is the third-largest city in British Columbia, Canada, by population, situated 20 km from downtown Vancouver.
SFU was established in 1965 and, according to the 2009 edition of Macleans Magazine, it is 1st among Canada's Comprehensive Universities, as well as 57th in the world and 3rd in Canada, according to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (2009).

SFU's athletic teams are known as the Simon Fraser Clan, which compete in NCAA Division II, the university also having affiliations with AUCC, CARL?, IAU, ACU, CIS, CUSID, CWUAA, CBIE and CUP, in various sports, for both men and women. Their distinctive colors are blue and red and their mascot is McFogg the Dog.
